Global Warming & Cabinet Meet Of Nepal at the Base of Mt Everest

Nepal has created a history by conducting a cabinet meeting at a height of 5242 meter; this is the second exemplary attempts by world leaders in recent time to spread the message of Global warming and Environmental change after the first cabinet meet done under the see by Maldives. Hope the message intended to be spread is well taken by the world. But as a Nepali, I am not convinced by the lavish expenses the poor country has to bear because of this propaganda.
Is this the time for us to get into this kind of antics? As we know, many of our leaders do not even know the meaning of Global warming! I am not sure about the number of ministers who might know the impact of environmental changes on the coming generation, but for record purpose they have no doubt, caused a loss of more than millions. The taxpayers’ money have been wasted for this activity, especially it becomes useless and irrelevant when we find the same leaders getting involved in activities which are bigger threats to environment. Before I illustrate my claims, it would be better for me to explore global warming and environmental changes!

What is Global Warming
Global warming is the phenomenon of rise in temperature of atmosphere and oceans. It has been observed that the average temperature of earth rose by 0.6 degree Celsius in last 100 years which is really very alarming!!! If the trend continues as it is today, by 2100, the average rise in temperature would be somewhere near to 3 degree Celsius which ultimately can raise sea level by 25m, definitely many islands’ existence would be in danger!

Cause and Effects of Global Warming
The major cause of the increase in temperature is due to the increase in concentrations of green house gases in atmosphere like water vapors carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) and ozone (O3), nitrous oxide (N2O). The Green house gases are responsible to create green house Effect.

Exploring Green House Effect
The biggest source of energy for inhabitants of earth is sunlight. When sunlight emitted from sun reaches earth, some of this is absorbed on the surface to warm the earth and rest is radiated back to the atmosphere, but the so radiated back rays have longer wavelengths and some of these are absorbed by the gases (CO2, CH4, O3 etc) which ultimately warm the atmosphere. The atmosphere then reflects the absorbed heat , the phenomenon is called Green house Effect.
The major greenhouse gases are water vapor, which causes about 36-70% of the greenhouse effect on Earth; carbon dioxide CO2, which causes 9-26%; methane, which causes 4-9%, and ozone, which causes 3-7%.Clouds also affect the radiation balance, but they are composed of liquid water or ice and so are water vapors from water vapor and other gases. Other greenhouse gases include, but are not limited to, nitrous oxide, sulfur hexafluoride, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons and chlorofluorocarbons

How does Green House Effect causes Global Warming
As discussed above, the increase in concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere results in absorption of more heat energy and hence more heat energy would be reflected back to the earth causing a temperature rise. In normal scenario, the same would have been radiated to the space.

How the concentration of greenhouse gases is increasing

It has been found that human activities mainly after industrialization have contributed towards the increase of concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The burning of fossil fuels on which the entire world depends badly is one of the major contributors towards increase of carbon dioxide gas concentration. The rate with which fossil fuels are being consumed is alarming. Though the reserve is there to sustain the demand well beyond 2100, but future looks glum there after, because of two fundamental reasons 1. Unwanted temperature Rise in atmosphere causing glaciers to melt: A threat to many islands
2. Unavailability of fuels:
An alternate and effective fuel has to be found out before it is too late.

Now I will concentrate my discussions to where I had started from.
I was referring to the recent cabinet meet of Government of Nepal at the base of Mount Everest spending billions of state exchequers. Of course it is a good gesture to show our commitment towards reducing global warming and diverse environmental change. But it is very ironical in Nepal, our same environment conscious leaders time and again instigate their cadres to have “Mashal Julus” , Tyre Burning and many more unwarranted activities  which ultimately can and does add its bit in already increasing greenhouse gases. If to show the world, they can hold a meeting at the base of mt Everest , I am sure they will not forget the lesson after coming back to kathmandu and their home districts , I want to be assured, no tyre burning and mashal julus will be done hereafter. if the trend repeats then the big fuss made for publicity would be similar to “Hathi aayo hathi aayo Fussa”. I will and other Nepalese too will understand this as one of the many dramas being performed by our political jokers.

Why Constituent Assembly?

Before I write anything, I feel to go to flash back. On February 13, 1996 the Maoists in Nepal started people’s war and before that they in a memorandum to then Prime Minister Mr. Deuba, had asked for the constituent assembly which was outrightly rejected by the Government. In the past also similar demands have been raised but it was never accepted by the authority. Those days , I always wondered what the constituent assembly meant, after the king abdicated the throne, the dream of a Constituent assembly was also realized . So now it becomes mandatory for all of us to actually understand why this constituent assembly?
We all are aware of the no of lives lost, the properties destroyed during insurgency in Nepal. Nevertheless , if  freedom and people’s supremacy has to come at the cost of sacrifices of innocent live and properties of billions  then let it be like that way .
I have thoroughly studied the constitution making process and constituent assembly of other countries too; more precisely I would take an example of Indian Constituent assembly. After India got independence, constituent assembly  election took place , the first meeting was held on Dec 9 1946   and the new constitution was approved on November 26, 1949 while the constitution was adopted from January 26, 1950. so altogether , it did not take more than 4 years to have a new constitution in a huge country like India which also went through partition during the period.
Now I see Nepal has also got a constituent assembly and seeing the proceedings, I can say it may take more than 12 years to promulgate a new constitution. Is this what for 15000+ innocent lives have been sacrificed? Maoists say they want “Civilian Supremacy”, I want to understand what this Civilian Supremacy is from Prachand? If the meaning of civilian Supremacy is Maoists’ autocracy then I hate that civilian Supremacy. Anybody in name of revolution wants to get into an absolute power and autocracy has to be mercilessly crushed. I am not having any personal enmity with Maoists or Prachand but I can not be a mute spectator for their GOONDARAJ, though I am totally against Violence, I am not a coward. I know how to answer the uncivilized bunch of people.
Now coming to Madhesi parties, what are they doing in Government ? UML and it’s chief doesn’t have a simple understanding of madhesi problems , then what is the use of being in the Government ? they have been sent to the CA , not to break glasses of Vehicles, not to slap CDOs rather they are there to help in making new constitution which will establish a sense of equality in common Nepalese population( Be it Madhesi or Pahade).
I want to ask questions to all jokers of constituent assembly , has anybody discussed any chronic problem which   Nepal is facing , has anybody given any solution ? What I have understood in last few months , they are there in constituent assembly only to claim fake travel allowances, fake medical allowance and monthly compensation? If we believe we can get a good constitution from these corrupted politicians who are not only corrupt but also immoral( See How Sujata Koirala though being DPM , lived her life lavishly in Singapore during Girija’s so called treatment in Singapore), then we are day dreaming. I feel there is a need of another round of struggle to extinguish the fire of corruption and immorality from Nepalese political horizon. May be Nepal requires some more sacrifices, if in name of revolution more than 15000 innocent Nepalese citizens can sacrifice their lives, then definitely there should not be any problem if few thousand corrupt and immoral politicians are also sacrificed . Violence is a sin, killing anybody is not permissible but killing pests is very much mandatory to keep yourselves intact. These immoral leaders are nothing but pests.
The responsibility lies on shoulders of Youth of Nepal, it’s our choice, whether we want to be adjusting whole our life or we start changing right away.
